Construction Begins on Maple Street!

I was so excited when Laura Denison started talking about her newest design series that will have different buildings making up a street in a small town.  The possibilities seemed endless and her first building in the series - the Couture Dress Shop - is sure a fun way to start.

This project uses Graphic 45's "Couture" paper collection, which couldn't be more appropriate.  The mannequins in the display windows come right from the paper as do the posters behind them.

The building features large display windows.  Working with the plastic to make the shaped windows was surprisingly easy.

The second floor has lots of windows and a little "balcony: with flowers.

Inside the Dress Shop is a mini album hanging from a hanger which is suspended from the roof.

The mini is full of little dress samples - some that Laura designed and others that I designed.  I wouldn't say that I am ready for Project Runway, but it was fun to try my hand at it.

One of the most fun aspects of this project was that one of my friends who lives far from me built it too. We used Skype and webcams to show each other what we were doing, and finished the project after several weekend sessions.

If you would like to make your own Couture Dress Shop, please visit Laura Denison's site and look for the pattern under the Maple Street patterns.  Laura also has free videos that walk through all the construction details which makes it easy and fun to create the project.
